Criteria for ESH Endorsement of Hypertension Related Books

Roland E. Schmieder, Stephane Laurent, Krzysztof Narkiewicz, on behalf of the ESH Council

A major goal of the ESH is to disseminate the latest information regarding optimal approaches for diagnosis, treatment and management of hypertension. The ESH has therefore great interest to endorse or co-endorse international scientific books related to hypertension and cardiovascular prevention and therapy.

The ESH will endorse books according to the following criteria:

  • The book should be written by highly reputed National or International  scientists.
  • The book should have the potential to be spread across Europe.
  • As a consequence, the language of the books should be in English to allow the dissemination of the book in Europe.
  • The book should give a systematic review of the current literature on hypertensive-related topics and personal opinions should be minimized.
  • The novelty of the book should be specified in written form when asking for endorsement by the ESH.
  • The major contents of the book should be in accordance with the 2007 ESH/ESC Guidelines for the management of arterial hypertension. A list of differences between the 2007 ESH/ESC Guidelines and the book (with respect to diagnosis, treatment and management of arterial hypertension) should be provided by the authors.
  • An application will be evaluated by one specifically assigned ESH Council Member who is not involved in the writing group or editing process of the book.
  • The guidelines will be approved by the ESH council.
  • All books endorsed or co-endorsed by the ESH will be displayed on the Society’s website.
